LASER THERAPHY

Laser therapy is a medical treatment that uses a strong beam of light to cut, burn, or destroy tissue.

LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY ON ORAL ULCERS

Mouth ulcers are one of the most common and painful ulcerative lesions of the oral cavity, but until now no cure has been recognized for it. In the absence of a clearly defined cause, the treatment for mouth ulcers are symptomatic, which include topical agents, systemic and topical steroids, corticosteroids, cauterization, antibiotics, mouth rinses containing active enzymes, etc. but this takes lot of time.

To avoid these disadvantages, a novel method i.e., low level laser therapy (LLLT) has been employed for the treatment of mouth ulceration because of its analgesic effect by stimulation of the healing process and promoting immediate relief of pain without an overdose of medication or side effects.

Low level laser therapy can decrease the healing time, pain intensity, size, and recurrence of the lesion. LLLT employed as a treatment modality for the management of mouth ulceration not only provides instant pain relief with a rapid decrease in the size of the lesion but also no recurrence seen even after 1 year.

ROLE OF LOW LEVEL LASER THERAPY

HOW ARE LLLT USED?

They work on concept of biostimulation. A specialized hand piece is provided by the manufactures for LLLT.

FMS dental hospitals possess special hand pieces in defocus mode for performing LLLT in most of its branches.

FMS dental hospitals possess Erbium laser in two of its centers. Erbium is the best choice of lasers for reducing sensitivity as it melts the tooth surface which occludes the dentinal tubules and eliminates sensitivity for long time.
