HOW COFFEE CAN AFFECT YOUR ORAL CAVITY…!!

When it comes to kick-starting the day or just a casual treat, many of us rely on a cup of joy. But what does it do to your teeth?

Coffee lovers take note: Your morning routine might affect your dental health..!!!

  • Staining of teeth: Coffee contains ingredients called tannins which are also found in beverages like wine or tea. Tannins cause color compounds to more readily stick to your teeth and leave an unwanted yellow hue behind. Also, your teeth enamel is very porous, so dark-colored foods and drinks can penetrate it and cause stains.
  • Enamel erosion: Caffeinated favorites often contain very high amounts of sugar along with equally high levels of acid. The sugar and acid can become corrosive to your teeth and lead to plaque build-up between your teeth and along the gum line, predisposing them to caries. Also, the teeth become brittle and hence prone to fracture.
  • Bad breath: Another side effect of drinking coffee can be bad breath or halitosis. This happens because the caffeine in coffee can dry out the saliva in your mouth. Without saliva, bacteria can quickly grow in the mouth and cause bad breath.
