  Know Dentistry

Dentistry is a specific branch of medical science, which deals with diagnosis, and treatment of diseases of the teeth and associated structures

Every individual has two sets of dentition in his lifetime ± a set of 20 milk teeth (deciduous teeth) followed by a set of 32 permanent teeth. Any of these permanent teeth once lost will not erupt again. Therefore, our treatment aims at conservation of the natural dentition by prevention and treatment of various dental diseases that plague the oral cavity.

There are 8 specialties in dentistry, which deal with the various problems.

1. Oral Medicine, Diagnosis and Radiology
2. Oral and maxillo facial surgery.
3. Periodontics
4. Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics
5. Orthodontics
6. Pedodontics
7. Prosthodontics
8. Community Dentistry

GUM DISEASE

  • Bleeding Gums: This could be because of accumulation of deposits in between your teeth and gums thereby causing irritation to your gums ±this is one of the first indicators of gum disease.

  • Loose Teeth: Disease extends to the supporting structures (bone) thereby weakening the support of the tooth.

  • Bad breath: Poor Oral hygiene and excessive deposits of tartar on your teeth could be the most common cause for a very offensive breath.

  • Swollen gums: Poor oral hygiene, certain deficiencies, harmonal changes, could be the causes for swollen gums. Apart from these, swelling in the gums can also be seen as a side effect to the intake of certain drugs and also due to poor oral hygiene in pregnancy

  TOOTH ACHE

Most common cause is extensive tooth decay, which has progressed to the dental pulp. Other causes could be injury to the tooth, impacted teeth, and certain dental and non-dental infections.

  CROOKED AND PROCLINED TEETH

Usually due to lack of space in the jaw.

  • Abnormal positioning of teeth
  • Extra teeth
  • Abnormal habits during childhood like: Thumb sucking,
    Tongue thrusting

  IMPACTED TEETH

Insufficient space in the jaw to accommodate the erupting teeth (usually the Wisdom teeth) could be the most common cause

MISSING TEETH

Teeth could be lost / extracted, due to a lot of reasons like decay, gum disease, trauma, Orthodontic extractions etc. Our Prosthodontist will guide you with the various modalities of replacing natural teeth and thereby restoring your beautiful smile.
